Integrated Science: Ghent
On October 4 members of the ILETS team were invited to attend a seminar on integrated science teaching at the HoGent in Ghent, Belgium. The three day trip allowed opportunities to discuss the implications of integrated science both on the school curriculum but on the training of the teacher workforce in Belgium. We were able to explore the differences in educational culture and the Scottish experiences of Curriculum for Excellence while also exploring the nature of both integrated and interdisciplinary science. Longer term plans would involve a joint PhD candidate to help develop the educational research capacity in the teacher educators of HoGent and to provide joint future research projects around interdisciplinary science.
Professor Vic Lally led the group which also included Andrew Gallacher, Kevin Lowden and Ingvar Stal.
