Reading response fifth grade

Today (actually yesterday) was suppose to be about the last chapter of the word nerd book study, but i wanted to share the reading response letters and syllabus since so many of you asked about it. I found this to be a great way to get my kiddos responding to text daily and it really helped organize my independent reading to the questions included, i have found that this tool works best with students who are third grade and up! Students often visually interpreted emotional plot elements and incorporated words, graffiti, and graphic organizers into their responses. I allowed my students to work on their responses in class during independent reading time. I use this download to keep my students accountable during their daily independent reading time.

At the end of our independent reading time each day, i would have my kiddos pick a question to respond to about the book they read that day in a special reader's response journal, a spiral notebook. Some teachers choose to have their students respond to reading in notebooks, while others may be more comfortable with scaffolded graphic organizers or guided pages. Because all students were familiar with this book, i thought it was a good book to use in my first response.
